Climatology, harvesting conditions
The year 2012 was particularly contrasted. The winter was cold and very dry. In February in particular, the average temperature recorded was the lowest in fifty years.
April brought freshness and heavy rainfall, then May and June were characterized by intermediate weather. The flowering and veraison of the Cabernet Sauvignons of Château Mouton Rothschild took place, to the day, on the average dates recorded for all the other vintages since 1962.
From July 20 to September 20, an exceptional drought prevailed, concentrating sugar and tannin in the grapes. The month of August was the fifth driest August in the past fifty years. At the end of September, cumulative rainfall was 26% below the average since 1962 (435mm vs. 589mm).
At Château Mouton Rothschild, the harvest began on October 1st and ended on October 15th. 2012 will be a historic year as the new vat room, after almost three years of work, welcomed its first harvest.
Rich, colorful, structured and very fleshy, the 2012 vintage promises to be a great success.
Harvest from October 1st to 15th
Cabernet Sauvignon 90%.
Cabernet Franc 2%.
Dense and opaque color, almost black with beautiful shiny reflections.
A noble nose, fine, complex and expressive, blends black fruits with blackcurrant and crushed blackberry aromas and opens on aeration on more complex notes of cigar box and spices.
The attack is sumptuous, ample and fleshy. The tannins are ripe, crisp and coated with a beautiful flesh, dense and firm, revealing cocoa and vanilla aromas.
The fresh, intense and mineral finish reveals an irrepressible élan of beauty.
