It did not look particularly good, this vintage, despite a good flowering.
A complicated spring, a difficult summer, full of doubts, but a fierce will not to give up and to be attentive to the needs of the vineyard. A permanent and strong concern about the capacity of the grapes to resist the rainfall of August and the storms of September. Then, from August 30th, day after day, the good weather settles in and confidence returns. We take risks to wait for the harvest. Every day, we face this dilemma,
Shall we pick up? No, we wait!
Finally, on October 2nd, the first Merlot grapes are picked on the young vines; October is there, golden, warm, magnificent. It allows us to postpone the picking of the old Merlot for a few days and to wait for the full maturity of the Cabernet Franc. That's how calendars happen. A unique situation in my life as a winegrower! A beautiful rendezvous, an autumn rendezvous that never ends.
An Indian summer, insolent!
The nose is very pure, elegant. The attack is precise, the structure rises little by little in power, reaching a very refined balance between the magnificent quality of the tannins, the flesh, the tension and the freshness. The 50% Cabernet Franc content of the blend sublimates the elegance of the tannic structure and gives the finish complexity and persistence.
