Among several clinical and dermatological studies, one clinical study* was conducted with 32 people with atopy-prone skin who regularly suffer from itchy skin. After applying the spray twice a day for a fortnight, 94% confirmed that it "has a cooling and refreshing effect on the skin".

Eucerin AtopiControl Intensive Calming Cream and Eucerin AtopiControl Anti-Itch Spray have been specially formulated with active ingredients that soothe itchy skin sensations.
Eucerin AtopiControl Intensive Calming Cream contains menthoxypropanediol and decanediol to calm and soothe the skin during flare-ups of atopic dermatitis:
Extracted from menthol, menthoxypropanediol activates the natural cooling receptors (called TRPM8) present in the nerve endings of the skin. The resulting cooling sensation reduces itching.
The antibacterial decanediol fights Stapphylococcus Aureus bacteria associated with atopic dermatitis.
The formula also contains the unique complex of active ingredients used in the range's basic daily care products:
Licochalcone A: a liquorice extract that soothes the skin and reduces redness
Ceramides: to strengthen the skin's barrier function
The main active ingredients in Eucerin AtopiControl Anti-Itch Spray are menthoxypropanediol, SymSitive* and Laureth-9 :
As in the Intensive Calming Cream, menthoxypropanediol refreshes the skin and acts on a sensory level to reduce itching sensations
SymSitive* calms the skin, stops tingling and reduces redness. It does this by blocking an itch-related receptor known as TRPV1 (transient receptor potential vanilloid 1) and calming the skin's nervous system.
Laureth-9 soothes the skin by reducing itch signals in the cells of the epidermis (the top layers of the skin). It does this by inhibiting the release of TSLP (Thymic Storal Lymphoietin), an itch mediator created by keratinocytes (a type of epidermal cell).
In addition to being used to calm the skin during an outbreak, the spray can also be used between outbreaks when the skin is a little itchy. The product should not be used on open wounds.
