The Maquis scented candle is made from handmade ceramic in Portugal. The matte green enamel covering the ceramic is contrasted by a glossy pink enameled interior.
The materials contrast and complement each other in this fragrant, sculptural object, making it an unusual and elegant decoration for summer homes. The outside of the ceramic is dotted with plant motifs, branches and leaves, recalling the name of the candle, which describes Mediterranean vegetation made up of shrubs.
The fragrance remains in the woody family, with an aromatic top note of nutmeg. It returns to its original identity with cinnamon wood in the heart note, followed by a resinous base note, like that of galbanum, which brings an herbal freshness that’s very pleasant in summer.
Our ceramic candle collections are a reminder of a noble material from the earth, the one we knead, mold and glaze. All our ceramics are handmade in Portugal. A mold is first developed and reproduced in all our sizes. The material is poured into it and then dried and hardened. After a few days, the object is taken out of the mold and plunged into the glaze to cover it with color. This is when the final transformation takes place: the piece is fired at very high temperatures in a kiln. The magic of the material and the work of craftsmen who practice the same gestures from generation to generation.
The quality of our scented candles involves a specific burning ritual. Each time the candle is burnt, it is important to wait until the entire surface liquefies before extinguishing the candle. This will prevent the formation of craters which are unattractive and make burning more difficult. The first time you light your candle, it will always burn for longer than on subsequent occasions. Allow time for the first layer of wax to liquefy completely. The length of time this takes varies depending on the size of the candle.
Never burn the last 1cm (1/2 inch) of wax to avoid flames burning against the glass.
